Camden's Birth Story (It's a doozy)

On December 11th I woke up around 4:00am to contractions.  At first they were pretty mild but then they got consistently harder so I started timing them.  My contractions were anywhere from 4 to 8 minutes apart.  I didn't get much sleep but I wasn't ready to go to the hospital yet because I wanted to labor at home for as long as possible.

Around 8:00am I got Eden up and took her to school.  I told Les not to go to far cuz I was thinking it was baby day.  He decided to stay home just in case.  I called my boss and told him I wasn't coming in for the last day of my rotation. I took advantage of this extra time to get things ready around the house.  I did some cleaning and got bags packed and then just waited...

Around 12:00pm the contractions stopped dead in their tracks.  One minute I was breathing through a contraction and the next they were gone.  I thought maybe all my cleaning and nesting caused them to stopped and so I laid down to see if they would come back.  Unfortunately, they didn't but I was able to catch up on some sleep I missed out on earlier.  After my nap I told Les to go to work cuz baby wasn't coming.

At 3:00pm I picked Eden up from school and we headed to her school Christmas Program.  I was really glad that the baby decided to stay in because I did NOT want to miss out on my little girl's first Christmas recital.  She did so great.  She knew ALL the words to every song.  She stood up on stage and sang her heart out with all the actions and dance moves to go along with it.

After her recital Grandma and Papa Rose took Eden with them to the cabin to stay for a couple of days.  Les and I headed home to get ready for the big debut.  We were schedule for an induction on 12/12/12.  I was suppose to call the hospital at 6:00am to see when I was scheduled to come in.  That  night as I was getting into bed to get as much sleep as possible, Les came and asked me if there was anything he needed to do before tomorrow.  I told him to shower and pack a bag...he didn't listen and went to bed.

Around 1:00am  I woke up suddenly in immense pain.  My contractions were hard and fast. With each contraction I was doubled over in pain.  I tried to breathe thru them for about an hour.  At 2:00am and on the verge of tears, I hobbled downstairs to wake up Les.  I told him it was "go time".  He jumped out of bed and then looked at me and asked "Do I have time to take a shower?!"  I was in the middle of a contraction and I wasn't all that pleased that he didn't do it BEFORE he went to bed.  I said "If you hurry!" gritting my teeth as my contraction was getting harder.

We got to the hospital around 2:30am.  Les pulled right up to the Women's Pavilion at St. Mark's Hospital and helped me to Labor and Delivery before parking the car.  When we walked in the security guard just looked at me and said "Labor and Delivery is to the right."  Apparently there was no mistaking that I was in labor (a.k.a PAIN)  Les left me and my birthing ball with the receptionist at Labor and Delivery so he could go park the car.  As I was checking in I found it funny that the sweet lady just wanted to chat.  I wanted her to stop talking and take me to my room...pronto!  Luckily I was pre-registered and so it was a pretty quick process.  When the lady took my name she said "Wait...aren't you suppose to be calling me in 4 hours for your induction?!"  I told her "Well, we decided we wanted to be early."

Once I got into my room and changed into my gown I sat on my birthing ball to try and work through the contractions while I waited for my nurse to come check me.  When the nurse checked me she told me I was at a 5.  I was actually disappointed I was only a 5.  I was hoping I was an 8 so that it was almost be over cuz I was exhausted.  Having labored the whole day before and now that my contractions were so hard I was just worn out and with each contraction it took all that I had to concentrate on relaxing.  My nurse informed me that my doctor would be at 6:30am to break my water unless she needed to be here sooner.  The thought of having to labor in this much pain for 3 more hours made me want to die.

Around 5:00am I looked at Les and told him "I can't do this.  I need the epidural.  I'm just too tired."  Les just looked at me and said "Whatever you want babe.  I'll go get the nurse!"  As much as I wanted to do this naturally again, I just knew I wasn't going to make it.  My contractions were so intense that each time I had one my whole body started to shake and I couldn't get myself to relax.  I also noticed that once we arrived at the hospital my contractions started to slow down and the thought of having to get Pitocin to make my contractions harder and faster made me want to cry...THEN knowing that my doctor was going to break my water in an hour and a half and having to deal with the contractions after that put me over the edge.  Epidural it was!

Oh the blessed epidural.  What was I thinking going natural?!  When I went natural with Eden my contractions weren't this intense.  I had a pretty easy labor.  I remember the contractions only being intense AFTER my water broke, but by that time I was ready to push so it wasn't too bad.  My contractions this time were so strong that I couldn't imagine them getting worse so the epidural was a life savor. My nurse gave me some Fentyl to tide me over till the anaesthesiologist arrived.  Literally one minute after I got the Fentyl I looked at Les and said "I feel awesome!"  He just laughed.  Shortly after the anaesthesiologist arrived and because the fentyl was still in effect I didn't feel the epidural at all.  Can I just say that my epidural was awesome!  I could still wiggle my toes and shift from side to side, I just couldn't feel my contractions. They also gave me some Pitocin to get my contractions going again.  Now it was just a matter of time.

When my doctor came in she checked me and told me I was a 7.  By this time my mom had arrived and we were all ready for baby to come.  My doctor told me to try and get some sleep since I had be laboring for two days and I still needed energy for pushing.  I took my doctors advice and went right to sleep.  My mom woke up a few times and told me to rotate to my other side to try and get things moving along.  My nurse told me that if I started to feel pressure to let her know.

Around 9:30am I told my mom that I was feeling some pressure, sure enough I was at a 10 and ready to push.  My nurse went to get the doctor and my mom and Les ran to the car to get the camera.  At 9:45am my doctor arrived and when she checked me she said "He's got a full head of hair!"  I was thinking "Sweet, I'm going to get my brown haired baby..."  As I was pushing, my doctor just laughed, she said "Your baby is so funny, labor does not seem to bother him.  He's just in there kicking in between contractions.  Usually being pushed down the birth canal stresses them out but your baby just seems to be having a great time!"

As the baby was coming out.  The doctor and nurses were amazed when they saw a head full of blonde hair.  My doctor just couldn't believe it.  She said "How is it that your mom is Mexican and you have this dark complexion yet your baby has a full head of blonde hair?!  I've never seen this before.  It's crazy!" After about 4 rounds of contractions with 3 pushes per contraction, a slippery little baby was placed on my chest.

I don't know if anyone can describe the feeling you get when the doctor places your baby on your chest.  First, I quickly looked him over to make sure everything was okay.  Ten fingers and ten toes and a perfect little face. Instantly I was in love.  He was perfect.  This pregnancy brought so much worry as far as his health went and so when I saw his little face, I was instantly relieved to see that nothing was wrong with my little man. I was now a mother of two and it was weird to think that I am now responsible for two little souls.  I couldn't be grateful that I have been given the opportunity to be a mom. It is what I was meant to do and the minute they placed this little baby in my arms it just fit..like he was always meant to be a part of our family and I couldn't imagine it without him.

Today I'll Remember....

Today I'll remember our very first tea party...
I'll remember how you came running in the door, home from school yelling for me and asking where I was.  I'll remember how your eyes were full of excitement when you asked me "Are we having a tea party today?!"  I'll remember how you shouted "HOORAY!"  when I told you "Yes".  I'll remember how you dragged your stool the length of the kitchen so that you could reach the sink and I'll remember how you ever so carefully washed each dish.
Today I'll remember how you placed each of your friends just so and how you asked them if they wanted to join you for tea.  I'll remember how you told me that we had to change our voices if we were to have tea..."cuz that's just what you do!" and I'll even remember how you told me that we needed to put beautiful bows in our hair so we would be ready for tea.
I'll remember how you shook my hand and said "Nice to meet you Linda, I'm Sally.  May I pour you some tea?" I'll remember how you then took your time and poured my tea so carefully so that it wouldn't spill and how you made sure to add an extra sprinkle of sugar to your cup of tea.
Today I'll remember how we had to say "CHEERS!" after every sip and how you tried so hard to point your pinkie but just couldn't get it right.
I'll even remember how you said "Simply delicious!" and sipped your tea, immediately followed by "More tea please!" in your english accent.  I'll remember how you smiled and giggled after each cup of tea and how you dabbed your mouth with your cloth napkin.
Today I'll remember how your nibbled your crumpet and dipped it in honey.  I'll remember how you showed me how to "eat like a lady" and thinking to myself "where did she learn how to have proper tea?!"
And I'll even remember how when all the tea was gone and the table was covered in crumbs you said "Thank you for joining me for tea..." followed by "I love you mama!" and with a big hug off you went to watch your show.
I'll remember sitting alone at the table looking at the mess that called my name and even though I was tired and the last thing I wanted to do was re-clean the kitchen I just picked up 20 minutes prior, it all seemed worth it if it meant I got to spend those 20 minutes emerged your world, watching you pretend and being "Linda, your tea partner" if only for a while.
I want to remember this day forever.  I want to remember how grateful I am to have a little girl, a little girl who wants to have tea with her mama.  I hope we have many, many more tea parties to come and I can't wait to cherish every minute of it!

Carving Pumpkins

October 21, 2012
This weekend Eden spent some special time with her Grandma and Papa Rose. Grandma picked Eden up from school on Thursday night and they headed to the mountains for some fun.  On Friday Eden helped grandma pick out some pumpkins to carve after Sunday dinner.  Bronson came to join the fun and Eden was thrilled.  She loves her cousins and Bronson is no exception.  They have more of a love-hate relationship.  They act like brother and sister.  Some days they love each other and are so sweet and other days they have to be separated.

On Saturday, Sheila brought Eden down for her swim lesson and she was so excited to show Bronson all her skills.  Bronson made sure to tell Eden everything she was doing wrong during her lessons.  I was just laughing my head off.  He was more than willing to show her how she should be doing her "scoops" and strokes.  He then informed me that he is the greatest swimmer EVER!  He may be small for his age but he definitely does NOT lack confidence.

After swim lesson Eden and I headed back to the cabin with Sheila and Dennis for some relaxing time....and so my husband could work on the basement.  (He's a man on a mission and I don't want to break his motivation, so off I went).  Eden loves going to the cabin with her grandma and papa.  She rules the house!  She can get her papa to get out of his chair every time with out fail.  I love watching her with her papa.  She loves him so much and it melts my heart to see her climb up on his lap and give him a big hug and kiss.  She's the only grand-daughter and she knows how to work it!

On Sunday the rest of the gang (minus Shane & Jody's Family...we missed you!) came up for Sunday dinner and to carve some pumpkins.  Eden of course had yet another white pumpkins and she wanted to make a ghost...(score!  that's an easy one).  I drew three circles and told her to copy the lines.  She did NOT want my help and all and so I just stepped back and grabbed the camera.
I love that whenever I grab the camera, this is her automatic response...such a good girl.  I have trained her well.  I helped her cut open the top but then made her pull out all the guts...she was not impressed.  Her and Bronson did not want to put their hands in that slippery mess.

Eden kept looking at my and say "YUCK mama!" with the most disgusted look on her face.  Bronson was almost in tears because he didn't want his hands getting messing....
While Eden was carving her pumpkin she kept grunting.  It was hard work.  It took some effort to get that little knife to cut that pumpkin.  Bronson kept looking over at Eden and saying "Oh! Eden you are off track!"  He was making sure she followed the lines...love that silly boy!
And in true Chad Rose fashion, the power tools were busted out to help the process along...
After the pumpkins were carved, we headed outside to take some pictures.  Eden wanted to take the pictures in a pile of leaves and I couldn't agree with her more.  Her and Bronson played in the leaves and had themselves a right nice time.  I think this is the first year that Eden has really gotten the whole "jump in leaves" idea and she LOVED it.  Bronson and Eden also spent time burying each other and throwing leaves at the big boys!
We had to force the older boys to pose for this picture, but I think it turned out great.  Eden loves her big boy cousins and they are all so sweet to her.  She's one lucky girl!!

Pumpkin Painting

October 13, 2012
Instead of being with my husband on our 5 year anniversary, I was at my mom's so he could work on our basement...we are romantic like that! At my mom's we loaded the kids into the car and headed up to a little fruit stand that's next to the highway on your way to Brigham City.  The kids got to each pick out a pumpkin to paint.

The kids had fun walking around carefully deciding which pumpkin they wanted to take home...
Eden REALLY wanted a white pumpkin and she walked around until she found one taht wasn't "yucky".  I told her she had to pick one that she could carry and so after careful consideration she found "the one".

After paying a whomping $1.27 for all six pumpkins we headed back to Pa's and let the kids loose to create their masterpieces...
My little girl is an artist.  She was very maticulous with her painting.  She'd dip her brush in the water, tap the side, and then mix all the colors together to create the most wonderful color ever to behold by a 3 year old.
Eden made sure to cover every inch of her white pumpkin and once that was accomplished she put her hands in the hair and said "All done! It's BEAUT-I-FUL!"
After everyone was done, she hosed them down in the sink and off they went to play.  Each kid wasn't allowed to touch ANYTHING until Aunt Marie gave them the A-OK.  One by one I wiped them down and removed their smocks and sent them on their way.  Bennett was the last to get the once over...and I had to do just that.  I could not find a drop of paint on him anywhere.  I just laughed and said "Bennett did you even paint a pumpkin?!"  He will be our artist for sure!

Breakfast with the Witches

October 12, 2012
As per Hutchison tradition, this weekend was Breakfast with the Witches.  It's a girls only event, not boys allowed. Grandma Lola even joined us this year, which was a special treat for us. Eden and I had been prepping for this day for weeks.  She was VERY excited to dress up as a witch and was very involved when it came to her witch outfit.  Luckily, we have an AWESOME Aunt Jody who bought Eden her witch dress. It was perfect.

As we were driving to Gardner Village Eden made sure to clarify that these were "nice" witches we were going to eat with.  I assured her they were very silly witches and that she was going to have so much fun...and boy did we!

This may be my favorite family tradition (2 years running) and the witches are so stinking hilarious.  What more could you ask for then a delicious breakfast (the pancakes tasted like marshmallows) and show?
Clovi was a little unsure of some of the witches, especially the witch that carried around a real life trianchula (for reals!)

Eden on the other hand, she just wanted to hug and kiss every witch.  My daughter has no fear when it comes to being in the spot light.  She wanted to get up on stage any chance she could get.

During breakfast one of the witches handed her a rat and told her she needed to come up on stage when they pointed to her.  Eden looked at me with the biggest eyes and was SO excited!  She could not wait until she got to be a part of the show.
At the end of breakfast they started a conga line and Eden strutted her stuff as she walked across stage...
Oh ya... that's my daughter bustin' a move!  The conga line lead outside to where you could take pictures with all of the witches.  It was a raining a little bit so we for went the pictures with the witches and just walked around Gardner Village.
The reason I love this day so much is because I think about how awesome a memory this will be for my little girl.  Something that her grandma and mama do with just her each year.  In a few months it won't be just mama and Eden anymore and I'm thankful that we'll have these special days to look forward to each year!
